Varieties I and II


GOOD:

OBVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Entire design well worn with very little detail remaining. Legend and date are weak but visible. Top of date may be worn flat. Rim is complete.

OBVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Entire design well worn with very little detail remaining. Legend and date are weak but visible. Top of date may be worn flat. Rim is complete.

REVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Eagle is worn nearly flat but is completely outlined. Lettering and stars worn but clearly visible. Rim worn to top of legend.

REVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Eagle is worn nearly flat but is completely outlined. Lettering and stars worn but clearly visible. Rim worn to top of legend.


VERY GOOD:

OBVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Entire design is weak, and most detail in the gown are worn smooth. All letters and date are clear. Rim is complete. Drapery across breast is outlined. Bottom right star is worn flat.

OBVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Entire design is weak, and most detail in the gown are worn smooth. All letters and date are clear, but tops of numerals may be flat. Rim is complete. Drapery across breast is partially outlined.

REVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): About one-third of the feathers are visible, and large feathers at ends of wings are well separated. Eye is visible. Rim is complete.

REVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): About one-third of the feathers are visible, and large feathers at ends of wings are well separated. Eye is visible. Rim is full and all letters are clear.


FINE:

OBVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Gown details are worn nearly smooth across body, but show at sides. Right leg nearly flat and toe is worn. Breast worn but visible. Date is clear and rim is full. Outer edge of shield is complete.

OBVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Gown details are worn but show clearly across body. Left leg is lightly worn. Right leg nearly flat and toe is worn. Breast worn but some mail is visible. Date may show some weakness at top. Outer edge of shield is complete.

REVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Eagle is evenly worn. Half of wing feathers are visible although well worn in spots. The rim is full.

REVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Breast is worn almost smooth. Half of wing feathers are visible although well worn in spots. The rim is full.


VERY FINE:

OBVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Right leg is worn nearly flat in central parts. Wear spots show on head, breast, shield, and foot. Beads on outer shield are visible, but those next to breast are very weak.

OBVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Right leg is worn nearly flat in central parts. Wear spots show on head, breast, shield, and foot. Beads on outer shield are visible, but those next to breast are very weak Inner circle of shield is complete.

REVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Entire eagle is lightly worn but most major details are visible. Breast, edge of right wing, and high parts of left are worn flat.

REVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Entire eagle is lightly worn but most major details are visible. Breast and edge of right wing are worn flat. Top tail feathers are complete.


EXTREMELY FINE:

OBVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): Wear shows on head, breast, and right leg above and below knee. At least half the gown line crossing thigh is visible.

OBVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): Wear shows on breast and right leg above and below knee. Most of the gown lines are visible. Shield details are bold. Breast is well rounded but has small flat spot.

REVERSE; Variety I (1916-1917): High points of eagle are lightly worn. Central part of edge on right wing is worn flat. Traces of mint luster may still show.

REVERSE; Variety II (1917-1930): High points of eagle are lightly worn. Central part of edge on right wing is well worn. Traces of mint luster may still show.
